The Forty-spotted Pardalote (Pardalotus quadragintus) is a tiny bird, and by far the rarest pardalote, being confined to a few colonies in the south-east corner of Tasmania, mainly on Maria Island and Bruny Island. It now occurs in only a few small areas of dry forest that contain white gum (Eucalyptus viminalis) trees, on which it is exclusively dependent. The pattern in the background has been inspired by the seed and flowers of the white gum tree.
